The Tottenham Hotspur winger has been linked with a switch to Southampton.

Currently in 19th place in the Premier League, Southampton have to improve significantly if they are to preserve their Premier League status.

Southampton are eager to bring in reinforcements before the transfer window closes tonight and are targeting Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela, as reported by The Independent.

Lamela has yet to agree a new deal at Tottenham, where his current contract expires in the summer of 2019, and his chances of regular playing time are set to be reduced further with Lucas Moura poised to join from Paris Saint-Germain.

Having worked his way back to full fitness following 13 months on the sidelines with a hip injury, Lamela has made 12 appearances for Tottenham this season, during which he has made two assists.

The Argentine would surely relish the opportunity to play regularly at Southampton, although it is likely that he would only join the club on loan if a deal does take place.

Southampton are in need of some extra creativity and bringing in Lamela would help them immensely in that regard as he is capable of bursting past players with ease, while he can also use his technique to excellent effect.

Signing Lamela would provide Southampton with a major boost and would greatly enhance the club’s chances of staying up.

If there is a possibility of getting this deal done then Southampton must try their utmost to finalise it.
