Swansea City striker Oliver McBurnie is a loan target for Sunderland, HITC Sport understands.

Sunderland have been desperately searching for a new striker throughout this month’s transfer, but have so far been unable to bring in any of their targets.

The Black Cats are short of options in attack after Lewis Grabban was recalled from his loan spell by Bournemouth, while James Vaughan left the Stadium of Light to join Wigan Athletic.

Sunderland boss Chris Coleman is determined to bring in a new forward before Wednesday’s transfer deadline with only young duo Josh Maja and Joel Asoro the only recognised strikers at the club and he has targeted a move for McBurnie.

McBurnie has been in and around the Swansea side since the arrival of Carlos Carvalhal and made his first Premier League start against Liverpool over the Christmas period.

The Scotland Under-21 international has made 11 appearances in all competitions for Swansea this season, but only three of those have come from the start.

A number of clubs including Aston Villa and Barnsley have expressed an interest in taking McBurnie on loan and now Sunderland have joined the chase for the player.

Swansea could be willing to send McBurnie out on loan if they are able to bring in a new forward of their own before Wednesday’s transfer deadline feeling McBurnie would be better served by playing regularly and gaining valuable first-team experience.
