Tottenham defender got a rare start in FA Cup clash
Former Tottenham star Micky Hazard has responded when quizzed about how young defender Juan Foyth fared against Newport County.
Foyth started as part of a back-three in a hard fought 1-1 draw against the League Two side, with Spurs narrowly avoiding a giant killing.
It was Foyth's fifth appearance for Tottenham, although he is yet to start a Premier League game.
Hazard responded when asked how he felt Foyth fared, commenting that he felt he has plenty to work on.
Thought on the ball he did well but still learning the defensive side of game— Micky Hazard (@1MickyHazard) January 28, 2018
The away game at Newport will have been a big learning curve for Foyth, who is still adjusting to English football and has not been afforded the opportunity to play regularly.
He was signed by Spurs from Estudiantes last summer, who beat competition from Paris Saint-Germain for him.
It is too early to really judge the Argentine youth international, but while manager Mauricio Pochettino keep selecting him for cup games, it is encouraging that he is at least on his radar, and he is not proving a liability.
An extremely high standard is required to crack Tottenham's first team at centre-back, and the fact Foyth is even competing, is a promising sign.
