Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce reportedly has no plans to use McCormack.
McCormack is currently on loan to Melbourne City, where he has scored 14 goals in 16 appearances.
His deal in Melbourne is due to expire this Friday, however, and the Daily Mail reports the Australian side have yet to reach an agreement with Villa about extending the Scotland international's stay.
It is claimed that Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has no plans to use McCormack if he does return to Villa Park, while the £12 million man's list of potential destinations is limited by FIFA's 'third club' rule.
McCormack could still move to the States, however, where Galaxy, along with Orlando City and Colorado Rapids, are keen, according to the Daily Mail.
The 31-year-old is said to be open to playing in MLS, and link up with big names such as Ashley Cole and Giovani dos Santos in LA.
McCormack scored 120 goals in 333 Championship appearances prior to joining Aston Villa, for whom he has found the net just three times in 20 league outings.
