The club are believed to be keen on bringing in the full-back to act as both cover and competition for Marcos Alonso.
Should the Blues land Emerson, however, what exactly does that mean for compatriot Kenedy’s future at Stamford Bridge?
Kenedy has barely featured for Chelsea this season and has only made five appearances, none of these coming in the Premier League.
The 21-year-old was simply brilliant against Norwich this week, however, and reminded the rest of the league just why Chelsea brought him to Stamford Bridge in the first place.
Playing in the left-wing-back role as a part of Conte’s favoured 3-4-3 formation the Brazilian excelled demonstrating his pace and skill.
As it stands, Kenedy is the only real alternative left-back option after Alonso. The Brazilian is fairly versatile and can play anywhere along the left-flank whether that be as a traditional left-back, attacking left winger of left-full-back.
Conte is believed to be blocking any approach from Newcastle due to lack of options and it is believed that should Emerson sign, Kenedy will be free to leave.
The starlet’s versatility is his most attractive quality in the eyes of Benitez. Should he acquire his services not only would he have a new left-back option, but he would also have some much-required pace on the wings, while also opening the door to potentially playing with a back three.
Either way, Newcastle look to have been handed a significant boost in their pursuit of the 21-year-old with Emerson looking likely to be heading to Stamford Bridge.
