West Bromwich Albion have been linked with a move for Arsenal defender Mathieu Debuchy.

Given Alan Pardew’s admiration of Mathieu Debuchy, it is perhaps not a surprise that West Bromwich Albion want to sign the Arsenal defender this month.

Pardew worked with Debuchy at Newcastle, and regularly praised the right-back throughout his time at St. James’ Park.

L’Equipe in France now say that West Brom are aiming to sign Debuchy in the coming days.

And Pardew’s past quotes about the defender now make very interesting reading.

Pardew said to The Chronicle, back in 2013: “Mathieu puts his life on the line every time in every game he plays.”

West Brom are going to need that sort of commitment, if they are to get out of trouble this season.

Pardew actually has sold Debuchy once before, with the French defender leaving Newcastle to join Arsenal, but even after he departed the Baggies boss was full of praise for the right-back.

He told the Mag: “He’s an outstanding professional. Arsenal are very lucky to have Debuchy, we loved him here.”

If Pardew does manage to pull off a deal for Debuchy, the 32-year-old is likely to go straight into West Brom’s starting line-up.

Debuchy has barely featured for Arsenal this term, but could still prove a very valuable option for West Brom, as the Midlands side battle to retain their Premier League status.
