According to reports from the Sunday Express (printed edition; 14/01/2018 – page 40), Everton will consider making a move for Nicolas Gaitan during the January transfer window.

However, the Argentine winger is the second-choice option, with the first choice being Arsenal forward Theo Walcott. The report claims that if Everton fail to lure Walcott away from Arsenal, only then will they make a serious attempt for Gaitan.

The 29-year-old is desperate to leave Atletico Madrid in search of regular games. He joined Madrid just 18 months ago from Portuguese giants Benfica, but has struggled to nail down a first team place under Diego Simeone.

According to reports from Marca, the Rojiblancos are looking to cash in on him, and they expect to get around £18 million from his sale.

Gaitan would be a fantastic addition to the Everton squad. He is a versatile winger who can play on either wing, and can operate as a no 10 behind the striker.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Southampton, Crystal Palace and West Ham are also interested in signing him.
