Does West Ham interest in Marko Grujic end Aston Villa's hopes?

Championship side Aston Villa are up against Premier League opposition in West Ham United and Huddersfield Town for Liverpool wonder-kid Marko Grujic.

Aston Villa’s attempt to sign Marko Grujic on loan from Liverpool always seemed a little on the ambitious side.

According to ESPN, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is open to the idea of the Serbian youngster leaving Anfield on a temporary deal this month after managing just three substitute appearances in the Premier League all season.

And the report states that Aston Villa are extremely keen on signing 21-year-old Grujic until the end of the season.

Thanks to Financial Fair Play, Villa may be restricted to loan deals this month but Steve Bruce would certainly be making the best of a bad situation if he managed to strike a deal for a truly elite talent, one who has been likened to none other than Paul Pogba and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

But the chances of Grujic dropping down to the Championship for the rest of this season may seem a little unlikely given that ESPN adds that West Ham and Huddersfield Town are willing to give the former Red Star Belgrade wonder-kid the chance to prove himself in the top flight.

West Ham manager David Moyes has clearly made signing a new midfielder his top priority and Grujic could benefit immensely from a spell at the London Stadium. The dynamic enforcer hasn’t started a league game in two years at Liverpool may be given a starring role with the Hammers.

Although with ESPN stating that Klopp will only let Grujic leave for a club who will give him frequent starts, Aston Villa shouldn’t give up just yet.

Grujic would have a challenge forcing his way past Mark Noble, Cheikhou Kouyate and Pedro Obiang – and West Ham could yet bring in another before the month is out.

Villa may be a division below but they could finally offer Grujic the chance to prove himself in England via regular first-team football.
