Swansea City are demanding a significant fee for the Everton target.
Resilient at the back and composed in possession, Mawson is a very talented player and is set to improve even further as he receives more game time.
Rather inevitably, there are suggestions that other clubs are interested in signing Mawson this month, with Everton amongst the clubs monitoring the situation, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Mawson would certainly be an excellent signing to bolster Everton's defensive resources, but the report indicates that Swansea won't contemplate selling the 23-year-old unless they receive an offer of around £50 million.
By setting their preferred fee so high, Swansea are likely to keep hold of Mawson until the end of the season at least, meaning Everton may have to look elsewhere if they want to bring in a centre-back.
If Swansea suffer relegation from the Premier League this season then they may well have little choice but to sell Mawson in the summer transfer window in order to raise funds.
For now, however, it seems that Mawson will continue to develop at the Liberty Stadium.
