Markus Rosenberg did not succeed at West Brom, but at Malmo he is a hero.

Playing in the shadow of Zlatan Ibrahimovic has meant it has been hard for Swedish strikers to get noticed or live up to his exploits.

Markus Rosenberg has more than 30 caps for Sweden and at 35-years-old is winding down his career, which yielded little success overseas.

Rosenberg’s best year came following Zlatan at Ajax, but on these shores he is best known for a woeful spell at West Bromwich Albion.

Rosenberg was signed by Steve Clarke for and somehow managed to play 28 games without scoring even once, doing himself such a disservice that the Baggies terminated his contract in 2014 to let him find a new club.

He has since rebuilt his career in Sweden, and has become a club legend at Malmo.

Rosenberg is entering what could be his final season, although he told Aftonbladet this week he find ‘no reason’ to stop playing.

Leeds defender Pontus Jansson is a big admirer, having briefly crossed paths at the Championship star’s hometown club Malmo in 2014.

Jansson sent a message hailing Rosenberg on Twitter last night, writing: “Glad to get to know this man, l learned things from him and that he is one of the biggest in history.”

That description will not ring familiar with West Brom fans, but speaks to Rosenberg’s credit how well he has rebuilt his career since his forgettable spell in England.

He has scored 59 goals for Malmo since returning to the club in 2014, and is determined to add more.
