Newcastle United look set to offload striker Aleksandar Mitrovic according to reports from France.

Transfers are a sore subject at Newcastle this month with Mike Ashley yet to give Rafa Benitez a budget as he prepares to sell the club.

Magpies fans are not happy with the on-off takeover talk disrupting much-needed investment in a team battling with a number of clubs against relegation.

So could the first sign of some movement on the transfer front come from France where RMC reports that Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic could be on his way to Bordeaux.

The Serbia international, who has not featured for the first team since December 9, has been out of favour under Benitez who desperately wants to add more quality up front.

Mitrovic has been out with a back injury and is close to a return having flown home to witness the birth of his child and receive physio on his injury.

He could have played his last game for the Toon, though, if French sports radio station RMC is anything to go by after they claimed Bordeaux have ‘opened talks with Mitrovic’s entourage’.

Les Girondins are exploring their options whether they can take Mitrovic on loan or permanently.

Benitez is not happy with his squad as it is let alone if they lose Mitrovic so is it a sign the Spaniard is clearing the decks for incomings this month?

The Magpies have been linked with the likes of Joe Hart, Olivier Giroud and Shane Long this month but Benitez may be in a situation where he has to sell to buy.
