The Aston Villa hitman has endured troublesome times since joining the club 18 months ago.

Villa striker Scott Hogan spoke to BBC West Midlands Radio last night, and made a pledge to the club’s fans, highlighting how he is confident that the goals will start to flow for him.

The 25-year-old moved to Villa Park from Brentford in the summer of 2016, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £9 million, but he has failed to establish himself at the club, scoring just two goals in 32 Championship outings thus far.

Injuries have certainly not helped his progression at Villa Park, but he now seems to be back fit and firing on all cylinders for the west Midlands outfit, having scored his first league goal of the season during his side’s 5-0 win over Bristol City.

Hogan spoke to BBC West Midlands Radio last night, and bullishly claimed that he is the best striker at Villa Park, whilst expressing his confidence that Villa fans will now start to see just why the club parted with £9 million to sign him:

“I’m confident fans will see what they spent the money on. I’ve come here to score goals and I haven’t. It beat me up that I couldn’t score. There’s reasons for that. I’ve come from a certain place in a certain way to a bigger place with a different way. But I’m still confident I’m the best striker at the club. Just like Jonathan Kodjia or Keinan Davis would be too. Or Conor Hourihane would want to be the best midfielder. You’ve got to be that way.”

Next up for Villa is their FA Cup clash with Peterborough United on Saturday, and Hogan will be looking to get on the scoresheet once again, and in doing so, continue his recent resurgence.
