Christmas overspending affects one in six of us

One in six of us will feel a financial pinch during January due to overspending over the festive season, according to the Money Advice Trust.

And for lots of us this will mean falling behind on important payments.

If you’re experiencing debt problems, you’re not alone, and if you’re doing ok, take note that debt can happen to any one of us at any time; ill-health, redundancy, unexpected emergencies.

So as this bonus season approaches we hope you will think about taking time out to plan for the long term, investing in your pension, saving for your future, it doesn’t matter what you do as long as you do something.

But if you are already in debt; get independent advice, learn to prioritise your debts and set out and stick to a budget. For other ideas, read our guide to debt to find out why you should take action now.
