Tottenham Hotspur have historically been fairly quiet during the January transfer market.

According to the Daily Mail, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has a transfer budget of £35 million to spend this month.

Whether that will be enough to secure some of the Argentine’s primary transfer targets is debatable, but he might just be able to bring in Everton man Ross Barkley and Man United ace Luke Shaw.

Barkley, 24, has just six months remaining on his current deal at Goodison Park, and might be available for a bargain fee this month, whilst Shaw, 22, quite clearly does not fit into Jose Mourinho’s plans at Old Trafford.

The Lilywhites have not exactly enjoyed the best of campaigns domestically this season, although they are still within touching distance of the top four, and their performances in Europe should give them the confidence they need to enjoy a successful campaign, both home and abroad.

A couple of quality signings this month would obviously assist them in their quest for major honours.

The Daily Mail claim that Pochettino has £35 million to play with this month, and in today’s ludicrously inflated transfer market, that isn’t actually an extortionate amount of money.

It could be enough to snare both Barkley and Shaw though, but whether they are the men for the job remains to be seen.
