Felix Wiedwald is back in the crosshairs of the Leeds United faithful.
You can't help but feel a bit sorry for goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald - unless you're a Leeds United fan of course, in which case sympathy will and has given way for a strong dislike.
The German goalkeeper has been back in Thomas Christiansen's first XI over the past month or so, having endured an error-laden start to life in West Yorkshire and surrendered the number shirt to Andy Lonergan temporarily.
But Lonergan might just fancy his chances of earning a recall when Leeds host Nottingham Forest tomorrow after the 27-year-old's latest error.
United lost 1-0 at Birmingham City on Saturday as an 83rd-minute strike from Jacques Maghoma proved enough to end the Whites' four-match winning streak.
The former Werder Bremen man parried Jota's weak effort right into the path of Maghoma, who smashed home from six yards, and suffice to say that the Leeds supporters aren't happy.
Wiedwald parries it out . . Ffs. Just not good enough. #lufc— Danny Long (@DBauer191) December 30, 2017
When will TC learn we need a new keeper.? Wiedwald is a TOTAL liability.. Go and sign Alex Mccarthy from Southampton.. Now!!! #lufc— TheDamnedUnited™© (@DirtyLeedsLover) December 30, 2017
Wiedwald!!!! Makes a great save earlier and an error. #lufc— Chris Smith (@Chris_smith_87) December 30, 2017
Yet again Wiedwald could have done better there. This has been absolutely awful from us. 1 defeat isn’t the end of the world but TC’s team and subs today were awful. #LUFC— Ben Smith (@BenSmith_7) December 30, 2017
Dead performance, error from wiedwald I think— Adam Joseph Dixon (@Dixon3001) December 30, 2017
One thing abundantly clear is that Leeds need a new goalkeeper in January and failure to sign one could and probably will cost them a playoff place.
Harsh as it might sound, Wiedwald is a liability at this stage, one who simply can't be trusted, and Victor Orta, United's Director of Football, must bring in somebody a lot better.
