The Aston Villa midfielder impressed in his natural position this weekend.
Aston Villa got back on track with a 1-0 victory against Middlesbrough on Saturday, ending a run of five games without a win, and Australia international Mile Jedinak played a significant role in the triumph.
With Glenn Whelan unavailable, Jedinak played alongside Conor Hourihane and impressed from the outset, suggesting he has a key part to play in the months ahead.
Villa are still in a decent position to ensure a top-six finish come May and, while Jedinak has barely featured in his preferred position thus far, he should get plenty of chances after his latest showing.
The 33-year-old had been used as a makeshift centre-back in the games against Derby County and Sheffield United. However he proved his worth in his natural position and it will be interesting to see if Whelan slots straight back into the starting XI next time out.
Jedinak has played just 44 matches for Villa since signing from Crystal Palace, due in no small part to injuries, and he will no doubt be hoping they are now behind him. After all, with a fit and firing Jedinak to call on, Villa will have a fine weapon for their ongoing promotion push.
After the game against Boro, we took to Twitter to see what Villa fans thought of Jedinak's performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
Jedinak absolute colossus today and Grealish played very well 2nd half. Confidence came back when leading. #avfc— Villa Views (@ViewsVilla) December 30, 2017
Jedinak and Hourihane were outstanding #avfc— Aston Villa Updates (@AstonVilla_info) December 30, 2017
Agree about jedinak though he was quality today in his rightful position won everything even against gestede! No doubt Whelan will be straight back in though— Jordan Spencer (@JordAvfc) December 30, 2017
Yep, still far from a good performance going forward, but let’s just hope Bruce remembers these things. Jedinak needs to play that holding role. He doesn’t need to avoid playing Elphick. (and for some strange reason Hutton really is a better LB than he is a RB!— Phil Roberts (@iamVilla) December 30, 2017
Great result yesterday hopefully snodgrass can push on now after a few poor showings. Hopefully elphick can continue in Terry’s absence if not available for Bristol game and jedinak continues to keep out the of form whelan from our the starting 11 #avfc— Robert Gibbons (@robgibb01) December 31, 2017
Sorry brucey but jedinak has proved how good he is over whelan in that position. Hourihane much more effective. #avfc— Pascal (@PascalBlankson) December 31, 2017
