West Bromwich Albion launched a huge bid for Palmeiras star Yerry Mina at the start of 2017 – but he’s set for La Liga leaders Barcelona instead.

After seemingly endless speculation, it seems that Yerry Mina is finally set to become a Barcelona player.
According to Spanish publication Sport, Barca are ready to exercise their ‘first choice’ option to bring the Palmeiras centre-back to the Camp Nou, most likely as a long-term replacement for the departing Javier Mascherano.
Mina has been seemingly on the verge of a switch to the Catalan giants for over a year but it appears that January will see the Colombian international, arguably the most promising defensive talent in South America, finally get his break.

It’s quite the glamourous move for a young man. Particularly when you consider that Mina, who inspired Palmeiras to their first league title since 1994 last season, was linked with a stunning move to West Brom just a few months ago.
Catalan newspaper Sport (19th June) reported that West Brom had made a stunning £15 million offer for the nine-cap Colombian – a move which would have made him The Baggies’ all-time record transfer.

It’s fair to say this bid fell very much in the ambitious category. It was known for some time that Mina was set for Barcelona and it was always unlikely that he would be making a detour to West Bromwich instead.
Though with West Brom set to cash in on their £30 million-rated talisman Jonny Evans in January, as reported by The Mirror, they may soon be in the market for a centre-back once again.
