Celtic will play host to Rangers in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.

Former Rangers player and manager Ally McCoist offered his former club strong words of advice ahead of their clash with Celtic on Saturday, when speaking exclusively to BT Sport, urging them to adopt a defensive approach during the Old Firm game.

The Hoops have once again been dominant in the Scottish Premiership this season, and sit comfortably at the top of the pile after 21 games played, 11 points clear of third placed Rangers.

Nothing less than a win will do for Graeme Murty’s men at Parkhead on Saturday, if they harbour genuine ambitions of winning the league title this term.

That will be easier said than done, however, with Brendan Rodgers’ side’s imperious home record.

Celtic have lost just three times in their last 67 home games in the league, and Rangers will have to be at their absolute best if they are to return to Ibrox with anything to show for their efforts.

And McCoist made it very clear how the Gers need to set up, if they are to have any chance against the Hoops, when speaking to BT Sport:

Rangers manager, Walter Smith and Ally McCoist, assistant manager celebrate after winning the Clydesdale Bank Premier League at Rugby Park on May 15, 2011 in Kilmarnock, Scotland..

“I take the point [that Hearts did it], but I certainly wouldn’t, no. I would turn into Walter Smith and go far more defensive. I’d certainly go five in the middle of the park. Rangers need to get energy in the team against Celtic, they need to be organised and they can’t play with two wide boys. I would certainly go with five in the middle of the park.”

The game kicks off at 12:00 and can be seen exclusively live on Sky Sports.
