Pundit calls out Rangers fan who criticised Celtic over sale.
Celtic are set to net a windfall from Virgil Van Dijk's big money move from Southampton to Liverpool.
Pundit Chris Sutton said at the time that Celtic sold Van Dijk too cheaply, and still recalls taking flak for his stance.
Last night after Liverpool sealed their move for Liverpool, and Sutton took the opportunity to remind a Rangers supporter who gave him stick at the time that he was right all along.
Sutton said Van Dijk is worth at least £20 million, at least we all know he's not fit to drive later! Obviously had one to manyCeltic specs— Bobby McLatchie (@BOBBY_MCLATCHIE) August 9, 2015
The supporter's credit, he responded by insisting he still feels Van Dijk is overpriced at £75 million, a world record fee for a defender.
Getting ping for a tweet I sent out 2 and a half year ago about Van Dijk about his value. 99% of the ‘people’ replying are giving it ‘sevco idiot’ love the originality still not worth £75 mil— Bobby McLatchie (@BOBBY_MCLATCHIE) December 27, 2017
Sutton went onto insist that Celtic must heed this lesson regarding Moussa Dembele, who has been linked with an exit from the club next month.
.@btsportfootball Virgil van Dijk at 75 million more evidence why Celtic shouldn’t sell Dembele on the cheap... 12 million to Southampton a snip at the time! It’s about time the Scottish game stops selling their best players on the cheap!!!!— Chris Sutton (@chris_sutton73) December 27, 2017
It is almost certain that Celtic will insist on including a sell-on fee if they do sell Dembele.
They will net £7.5 million from Van Dijk's move to Liverpool, a reward for an excellent piece of forward thinking from the club's board.
