According to the Daily Mail, Everton scouted Lille defender Adama Soumaoro on Wednesday night as they line up a January move.
The Toffees splashed the cash on Michael Keane over the summer, but manager Sam Allardyce has gone with Mason Holgate and Ashley Williams as his first-choice centre back pairing.
With Williams and Phil Jagielka now in their 30's, another centre back may well be on Everton's radar for January, with Allardyce seemingly returning for an old target of his.
The Daily Mail report that Everton sent scouts to watch Lille defender Adama Soumaoro in action against Nice on Wednesday night ahead of possibly making a January move for the centre back.
Soumaoro, 25, has come up through the ranks with Lille, and made his sixth appearance of the season when he took on Nice, helping Lille claim a 1-1 draw.
A powerful defender who stands at 6ft 1in tall, Soumaoro could be a boost to the Everton back line – and he is certainly no stranger to manager Allardyce.
As reported by the Daily Mail back in February 2016, Allardyce wanted to bring Soumaoro to Sunderland, but no move went through, with a £20million Everton swoop potentially on the cards next month.
Everton appear to have alternatives though, with the report adding that the Toffees remain interested in Porto's experienced Spanish centre back Ivan Marcano, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
