West Ham United face a tough task of qualifying for the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night as they face London rivals Arsenal at the London Stadium - and fans want Diafra Sakho to start up front.
Manager David Moyes seems to be finally getting a reaction out of his players as the Hammers go unbeaten in their last three games, beating Chelsea and Stoke as well as drawing against Arsenal in the Premier League.
The east Londoners earned a comfortable 3-0 win over Mark Hughes' Stoke on Saturday, with 27-year-old Sakho scoring West Ham's third after Mark Noble and Marko Arnautovic had already found the back of the net.
Senegal international Sakho is in the final year of his contract with the Hammers which is reportedly worth £20,000 a week according to the Daily Star, but has hardly been given a chance to prove he is worthy of an extension.
Starting just two Carabao Cup games, his 14 Premier League appearances have all been from the bench but the former Metz attacker has still managed to score four goals in all competitions, as his speed and eye for goal remain a threat in England's top tier.
West Ham fans want to see their number 15 start against Arsenal, with one fan even claiming he "always looks dangerous".
If we want a like for like replacement for Antonio up front so he can have a rest, would like to see Sakho start. Always looks dangerous and offers more of an aerial threat as well as the running aspect of the game than Hernandez.— Josh Verrills (@WestHamJoshV) December 16, 2017
How do you think they will line up come Tuesday? Think we need to stick with the same back 5 with rice and obiang in front. Would like to see Sakho and Chicharito start and then a toss up between lanzini and Arnie.— Brian G (@Irishbeardedman) December 16, 2017
Not only 4 the reasons U mention but as importantly 2 maintain team morale do we need 2 change the squad. CH 17, Ayew, Sakho, Rice, Fernandes need 2 start.— Steve Eisner (@1westhamfan) December 17, 2017
Start sakho ayew chicharito fernandez .....rest Antonio Arnie lanzini. Noble for fernandez. Them players need a out. And Newcastle is important Saturday.— J (@BurchettJason) December 17, 2017
Rest Antonio for Arsenal, and Arnautovic. Play Sakho, Ayew and Hernandez. If we were higher up the league I’d prioritise the Cup but given our situation Newcastle is the bigger game. Need to keep the momentum going— Dave Hardie (@baldyh77) December 18, 2017
We should accept the Lanzini https://t.co/il2lrRa0zW many times do you win a appeal? Its BS..The League Cup is not as important as The Premier League games.Ayew,Sakho &Chicarito are more then capable of beating Arsenal— ⚒Imran Khan ⚒ (@imran484_khan) December 18, 2017
Gotta be a 90 mins runout for Sakho, I reckon. His pace will stretch the Arsenal back line.— Patrick O'Flynn (@oflynnmep) December 17, 2017
