Steve Bruce put his faith in Aston Villa’s Gabriel Agbonlahor over pre-season, but that decision is proving to be a big mistake now.
Villa went into the campaign with Agbonlahor as one of their strikers, despite many fans feeling that the long-serving forward was set for a move elsewhere.
However, Agbonlahor has barely had any impact this season due to persistent injuries, and the rapid striker’s failings have been exposed.
Villa are now badly struggling for a striker, and Bruce’s decision to stick by Agbonlahor is looking like a major error.
Although Bruce could hardly have foreseen such a bad injury crisis hitting his squad, he did put too much faith in Agbonlahor.
The forward simply has not performed for the claret and blues for a number of seasons, and Bruce’s faith in the forward has proven very misplaced.
Villa were forced to start with Josh Onomah up-front against Derby County, as they fell to a 2-0 defeat at the weekend.
And Bruce may be looking back with some regret now, over not buying a striker in the summer and offloading Agbonlahor, when he had the chance.
