West Ham United were mightily impressive away at Stoke City on Saturday.

David Moyes, Manager of Sunderland gives his team instructions during the Premier League match between Arsenal and Sunderland at Emirates Stadium on May 16, 2017 in London, England.

Hammers boss David Moyes opened up on the warning that he and his staff gave Marko Arnautovic before their game against Stoke City on Saturday, as quoted by the club’s official website.

West Ham have been superb recently, taking seven points from their last three games – a run that has seen them climb outside of the relegation zone, and the 28-year-old forward’s performances have been a major contributing factor behind their improvement.

Moyes deserves great credit for offering the Austrian an opportunity to prove himself when he was appointed as manager at the London Stadium, with many calling for him to be moved on in January.

Arnautovic has repaid the faith shown in him by the Scot, however, scoring two goals in the Hammers’ last three games.

Moyes explained how he warned the 28-year-old not to get wound up, when facing his old club on Saturday, as quoted by the club’s official website:

“We did speak to Marko ahead of the Stoke game. I said to him ‘Make sure you don’t get wound up today. It’s not going to be for you, so don’t get carried away with it and don’t get involved’. I think he played like that a little bit at times in the first half and if he’d played a bit more with his head he’d have got a couple of goals. I needed him to show even more toughness and he did that in the second half and he got the goal.”

Next up for West Ham is a trip to the Emirates to take on Arsenal in the Carabao Cup tomorrow night, before they welcome Newcastle to the London Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday, and a pair of wins in those matches would see the Hammers fans on cloud nine, as their side head into the hectic Christmas period.
