According to the Daily Mail, Everton are stepping up their interest in signing Lille defender Adama Soumaoro in the January transfer window.
The Toffees will be searching for attacking reinforcements during the January transfer window, given that they failed to replace top goalscorer Romelu Lukaku over the summer.
However, given the respective struggles of veterans Ashley Williams and Phil Jagielka this season, new manager Sam Allardyce may yet hope to bring in another centre back to boost his defensive options.
The Daily Mail now report that Everton are now stepping up their pursuit of Lille centre back Adama Soumaoro, in the hope of securing a January deal for the defender.
Soumaoro, 25, has come up through the ranks with Lille, and has made five appearances this season after missing the early stages of the campaign with an injury.
The centre back is up for sale for around £20million in January as Lille look to raise funds in the new year, and Everton boss Allardyce could finally land his man.
The Daily Mail noted back in February 2016 that Sunderland – then managed by Allardyce – wanted to sign Soumaoro, with his rekindled interest little surprise.
Whether Soumaoro is worth £20million or more is another matter, but with athleticism needed alongside Jagielka, Williams and summer signing Michael Keane, the Frenchman could fit the bill for Allardyce.
