Everton’s hunt for a replacement for Romelu Lukaku could finally be over if they can convince their man to come to Merseyside.

Everton are interested in Porto forward Vincent Aboubakar, according to Wales Online.

The Welsh publication have previously reported an interest in the front man from Swansea City, but it appears Everton – in desperate need of a new striker – could now pounce.

And what a signing Aboubakar would be for Sam Allardyce’s men.

The Cameroon international has been in outstanding form for Porto this season, notably playing a key role in their thrashing of Monaco last week that secured a last-16 Champions League berth.

Aboubakar scored twice and assisted the third goal in that game, running the Ligue 1 champions rugged.

Perhaps most importantly for Everton, his style of play is also very similar to that of Romelu Lukaku, whose absence has been so keenly felt at Goodison Park this season.

Aboubakar is quick and strong, good on either foot and a devastating finisher.

In fact, having looked high and low for a replacement for Lukaku since his summer exit, the Toffees would struggle to find a more suitable signing.

Allardyce must convince Aboubakar to give up Champions League football for the opportunity to lead Everton into an assault on the Premier League’s elite – he is the missing piece of their expensively assembled side.
