Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City look set to battle over the signature of Matteo Guendouzi.

The 18-year-old – who was born less than a month after Allan Nielsen scored the winning goal for Spurs in the 1999 Worthington Cup final – went into this season having previously made a handful of appearances for the Lorient first-team, but had instead been more regularly seen playing for their B side in the fourth tier.

However, following the first-team’s relegation last term, the holding midfielder – who has represented France at various youth levels – has become a much more important part of the senior side, making 10 league appearances to date.
According to Sky Sports, Spurs are particularly keen to strengthen their options just in front of the defence and have recently considered a move for Geoffrey Kondogbia, who is on loan at Valencia from Inter Milan.

With Guendouzi yet to make a significant impact in the French top flight, it would certainly be no surprise if the Tottenham and City fans were not getting too carried away about the speculation just yet – though the calibre of clubs having a look at the teenager is certainly encouraging.
Manchester City seem to be strolling towards the Premier League title after beating Manchester United on Sunday, while Spurs are sixth but not too far off the top four after thrashing Stoke City.
