Alan Shearer has taken to social networking site Twitter to send a plea to Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley.

The Newcastle legend wants Ashley to sell the North East club as soon as possible and leave.

The former England international striker made the plea on Twitter following the Magpies’ 3-2 defeat to Leicester City at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

It was Newcastle’s 125th anniversary, and the defeat at home must have come as a massive disappointment to the fans.

BBC pundit Alan Shearer looks on before the FA Cup Second round match between Hartlepool United and Blyth Spartans at Victoria Park on December 5, 2014 in Hartlepool, England.

The defeat to the Foxes means that Rafael Benitez’s side are now 16th in the Premier League table with 15 points from 16 matches.

The Magpies are only two points above the relegation zone and are in danger of going down to the Championship at the end of the season.

The North East club won promotion from the Championship to the Premier League at the end of last season.
