Southampton are ahead of at least ten other Premier League teams and Benfica in the race to sign Mohamed Elyounoussi from Basel.

The form of Basel winger Mohamed Elyounoussi has drawn the interest of the Premier League and German publication Blick claims Southampton currently lead the race for his signature.
They will face competition from other teams in the English top flight, however, as well as Benfica – whom the 23-year-old scored against during a recent 2-0 Champions League victory.

Elyounoussi’s performances for the Swiss champions in Europe have helped them to qualify from their group alongside Manchester United.
In total the Norway international has five goals and 11 assists in 23 matches in all competitions this season and it is expected he will leave St. Jakob-Park by next summer at the latest.

This is Elyounoussi’s second campaign in Switzerland having spent his playing career until 2016 solely in his native Norway, coming through the ranks at Sarpsborg before joining Molde.
With the latter the midfielder won the title in 2014 and last term he won the double of Swiss Super League and Swiss Cup with Basel.
