Aston Villa signed John Terry on a free transfer in the summer.
Carlos Cuellar in action for Villa
Villans legend Carlos Cuellar shared his surprise and absolute shock when hearing that his former club was interested in signing John Terry in the summer, when writing a column for the club’s official website.
Steve Bruce brought the former Chelsea and England captain to Villa Park on a free transfer in July – much to the surprise of the footballing world.
The 36-year-old’s presence amongst the Villa defence has led to Bruce’s men being a much more solid, unified outfit this term, and they have really missed him over the past few weeks, as he continues his recovery from a broken bone in his foot.

An Cuellar, who made 123 appearances for Villa during a four year spell with the club, shared how he thought the English media had gone crazy when hearing rumours regarding Terry’s switch to Villa Park, when writing a column for AVFC.co.uk:

“Before the campaign started, I remember reading the news in the days that led up to John Terry’s signing and I thought: ‘no way, the press are crazy, this won’t happen’. I’ve never been so glad to admit I was wrong.”
The 78-capped England international is expected to be absent from action until around February, and Bruce will be hoping that his side manage to remain in the mix for the promotion spots until his captain returns to the first-team setup.
