Jamie Carragher says Sam Allardyce will be an instant hero amongst Everton fans if they win against Liverpool on Sunday.

Pundits Jamie Carragher (L) and Gary Neville laugh prior to the Premier League match between West Ham United and Leicester City at London Stadium on November 24, 2017 in London, England.

Reds legend Jamie Carragher discussed the upcoming Merseyside derby on Sunday, and suggested that Sam Allardyce will be an instant hero with Toffees fans if he manages to guide his side to a victory at Anfield, as quoted by Sky Sports.

Both Liverpool and Everton head into the derby in good form, having won their last two Premier League outings, and a victory for either side at the weekend will give them great emphasis heading into the hectic Christmas period.

The Blues will have to be resolute and extremely organised defensively, with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino baring down on them, but Sam Allardyce has made a living out of setting his teams up so they are incredibly hard to beat, and it would be no surprise to see the visitors frustrate the hosts.

And Carragher joked that the 63-year-old will have a big statue built in his name, if he manages to guide his side to all three points against Liverpool on Sunday, as quoted by Sky Sports:

“The early win is massive for Sam Allardyce. When that final whistle goes and you’ve won, you’re happy no matter who the manager is and who is playing. The most important thing is getting results. Everton fans will get behind him and if they win at Anfield then Allardyce will be a hero. There’ll be a statue – a big one!”

The Merseyside derby kicks off at 14:15, and can be seen exclusively live on Sky Sports.
