Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Phil Ofosu-Ayeh is still waiting to make his debut for the club.

Wolves manager Nuno Espírito Santo looks on during the pre-season friendly match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leicester City at Molineux on July 29, 2017 in Wolverhampton, England.

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo sat down for an exclusive interview with the club’s official website, and provided a cautious update on summer signing Phil Ofosu-Ayeh, with the 26-year-old still waiting to make his first appearance for the club.

The Ghanaian joined the Black Country outfit from Braunschweig on a free transfer in July, but has been prevented from playing for Nuno’s side after undertaking an operation on his ankle way back in September.

Wolves have hardly struggled in Ofosu-Ayeh’s absence, however, and currently sit comfortably at the top of the Championship table, with a one point lead over second placed Cardiff City, having played on game less than the Bluebirds.

And with Nuno’s men in such great form, the right-back will surely find it hard to force his way into the starting XI, even when he is fully fit – something that his manager believes is still a long way off.

The Portuguese told reporters how he and his staff are taking a cautious approach to Ofosu-Ayeh’s recovery, as quoted by Wolves.co.uk:

“The programme that is being done with Phil is trying to increase his load of running. But he still has pain. We have to be very cautious, not only because of this particular injury, but the way that Phil – for the last year – has struggled. He needs to settle down and solve, definitely, the problems that he has.”

Wolves will be looking to stretch their lead at the top of the Championship to four points over Cardiff City tomorrow, when they head to St Andrews to take on Birmingham City, and they will once again have to make do without the services of the Ghanaian right-back.
