Rangers have been without a manager for over a month as the Gers struggle to replace axed Pedro Caixinha.
Derek McInnes and Alex McLeish have been heavily linked with the role at Ibrox, and Ladbrokes suspended betting on the latter getting the job on Monday.
Asked by Jim White on talkSPORT if he was ready to step in, Wilkins, who spent two years at Rangers as a player, said: "I'm in the frame, I'd love to be able to help.
"I'd love to help a wonderful football club get back on its feet. And I'm sure there's so many other guys, Big Terry [Butcher] will be listening to this and he'd love to be back in there. We've got so many ex-Rangers out there that would love to help this club.
"These are guys who have seen it and done and want to do it again - myself included. I'd love to be involved to try to help this wonderful football club."
The revelation has gone down very well among Rangers fans - but even better among Celtic supporters.
Despite a multitude of assistant jobs down the years, Wilkins hasn't managed a club since a stint with Fulham in 1998 and though it's unclear whether he's championing himself as Gers manager or for another role, fans of the Parkhead club are desperate to see him involved on the blue half of Glasgow.
