The Brentford centre-back previously spent time on loan at Sheffield United.

Sheffield United ‘may bid £750,000’ for Brentford centre-back John Egan ‘to boost their promotion push’, the Daily Mirror reports on page 48 of its printed edition on Monday.
Egan has established himself as a regular in Brentford’s side since his 2016 transfer from Gillingham, and has taken on the captaincy following Harlee Dean’s departure to Birmingham City earlier in the campaign.
With the 25-year-old’s contract also not running out until June 2019, the Bees appear to have little incentive to sell in January. Nevertheless, interest from Sheffield United, who sit 12 places higher than Brentford in third, is sure to pique the player’s attention.

The Blades though, are certainly not short in Egan’s position, with Chris Basham, Jake Wright, Cameron-Carter Vickers and Jack O’Connell all regulars this season, while manager Chris Wilder also has summer signings Richard Stearman and Ben Heneghan to call upon.
