You can see exactly why Dominic Solanke thought he would be better off at Liverpool than Chelsea.
While the current Premier League champions are frequently vilified for their failure to bring through homegrown talent, countless fresh-faced youngsters have been given their opportunity by Jurgen Klopp at Anfield. But after featuring in just 85 minutes of Premier League football throughout the 2017/18 season, Solanke may now be wondering whether he has once again found himself at the wrong club.
Klopp has shown plenty of faith in the 20-year-old striker, giving him plenty of minutes in pre-season, but he is yet to start a single league game for The Reds.
Though with Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce urging Solanke to seek a loan move away from Anfield in January in order to get some first-team minutes under his belt, per the Liverpool Echo, will the newly-capped England international emerge on Celtic’s radar once more?
The Daily Record stated that Solanke was high on the wishlist of Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers with his contract at Chelsea expiring in the summer, only for the Northern Irishman to lose out to his former employers.
But with PSG loanee Odsonne Edouard out of favour, it appears that Celtic are in the market for attackers to compliment Moussa Dembele and Leigh Griffiths in January. Patrick Twumasi, Richmond Boakye and Dnipro talisman Artem Dovbyk have been linked of late.
Though Solanke would surely be the pick of the bunch if he is made available with Rodgers a keen admirer. A loan spell at Celtic could benefit all parties, in particular a striker who is still yet to taste regular first-team football at the highest level.
