The Huyton-born former player is a boyhood Everton fan.
It is pretty fair to say that Everton’s season has not exactly gone to plan. Despite spending big in the summer the majority of their signings have not yet excelled, the defence is leaking goals, they’re out of Europe and Ronald Koeman has been sacked.
Currently David Unsworth is in caretaker charge and the club’s hunt for a permanent replacement has been protracted and unsuccessful.
It has seen criticism come in from plenty of pundits, but particularly from the controversial former Burnley midfielder Joey Barton.
He has made his feelings on Unsworth very clear in recent weeks whilst the players have not been immune from his stick either.
But is there a simple reason why Barton is being so harsh on Everton? The Huyton-born lad, who spent some time with the Everton academy in his youth, is a self-proclaimed Evertonian. Since he was a young boy he has been an Everton fan and seeing his club seemingly directionless clearly has frustrated him.
Just like the local fan down the pub or in the chip shop he is simply venting his frustrations at what he sees is the mismanagement and under-performance of his side. The fact he is doing it in his own uncompromising style is down to his own personality.
Everton fans may not agree with everything he says, but isn’t football all about opinions? Barton is simply a disgruntled fan, of which there are many at Goodison Park this season.
