Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly pursuing Fiorentina defender German Pezzella.
According to Italian newspaper Tuttosport (14/11/2017), Tottenham Hotspur are in the race to sign Fiorentina defender German Pezzella – alongside Atletico Madrid.
Pezzella, 26, came up through the ranks with River Plate in his native Argentina having joined them at the age of just 14, eventually becoming a key first-team player at El Monumental.
His performances for River earned him a move to Real Betis in 2015, and after two years of impressing in Spain, he moved on loan to Fiorentina this past summer, with his deal including a purchase clause.
Pezzella has missed just one game for Fiorentina this season, and his superb displays for the Serie A club have seen him earn his first Argentina caps, featuring against Russia and Nigeria over the last few days.
With his stock rising this season, Tuttosport (14/11/2017 and as cited by Tutto Mercato Web) now claim that Fiorentina are prioritising a permanent deal for Pezzella, in a deal worth just over €10million (£9million).
Their desperation to get an agreement sorted quickly is because Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid are allegedly keen to swoop in and sign Pezzella themselves, in what could become a complicated saga.
Such a transfer battle would pit Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino against his former Argentina teammate Diego Simeone, with both managers keen to land their compatriot to boost their defensive options.
Whilst Pezzella wouldn’t grab many headlines, he could be solid depth behind Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez, offering Pochettino another cheap option whilst Juan Foyth develops.
