Glasgow Rangers are still searching for their new manager, and there is a new face in contention for the Ibrox post.

A general view of Ibrox Stadium is seen ahead of the EURO 2016 Qualifier match between Scotland and Georgia at Ibrox Stadium on October 11, 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Rangers’ search for their new manager continues into the second week of the international break, and there is a new name in serious contention, according to bookmaker Sky Bet.

The Gers parted company with Pedro Caixinha towards the end of last month, and Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes has been the odds-on favourite for much of the time since the market has been open, with Sky Bet listing the former Gers midfielder at 1/3.

There does not appear to be too many contenders for the post based on the betting market, with Giovanni van Bronckhorst the second favourite at 11/2 and current caretaker Graeme Murty at 9/1.

But Murty now finds himself fourth favourite in the market with Michael O’Neill now listed at 8/1 on Sky Bet despite the fact that the Northern Ireland boss has not been a main player in the market since it opened.

Of course, it is no surprise that O’Neill’s odds have shortened rapidly over the last few hours, with Northern Ireland losing their World Cup qualifying play-off tie with Switzerland on aggregate following the second-leg on Sunday.

O’Neill’s stock has risen dramatically during his time in charge of the national side, guiding them to Euro 2016 and so nearly taking them to their first World Cup since 1986 – and perhaps Rangers may be weighing up making an approach in the hope that O’Neill feels that he has taken the national team as far as they can go.
