John Sheridan manager of Oldham Athletic looks on during the Sky Bet League One match between Oldham Athletic and Bolton Wanderers at Boundary Park on April 15, 2017 in Oldham, England.

John Sheridan has backed Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United to get “in and around” the Championship play-offs this season.

Second-place Sheffield United already look good for a top-six finish, having opened up an eight-point lead over Derby County in seventh.

But Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday face a somewhat more difficult ask, having found themselves two points further back than Derby, in 10th and 11th position respectively.

Sheridan though, has told Sheffield Live TV that both his old clubs – Leeds and Wednesday – will be there or thereabouts come the end of the campaign.

He said: “I would fancy them to get in and around the play-offs, Sheffield Wednesday, definitely so. Likewise with Leeds, I fancy them (even though) they’re inconsistent.

“Sheffield United are going great at the moment so Yorkshire teams, I fancy at least two or possibly three of them hopefully to get in around the play-offs – possibly one going up automatic.”

Sheridan, who was linked with the Leeds manager’s position ahead of Garry Monk’s appointment last year, made his professional debut for the Whites, and revealed he has always lived in the city, despite lengthy spells at Sheffield Wednesday and others.
