Griffiths is one of the most important players in the current Celtic team and has been playing well this season.
The Scotland international striker has stepped up in the injury absence of Moussa Dembele.
The 27-year-old former Wolverhampton Wanderers man could return to playing second fiddle if and when Dembele returns to full form.
Former Celtic midfielder and manager Hay has praised Griffiths, and has stated that he has given manager Rodgers food for thought.
“I thought he started the season on fire and had a real purple streak of form,” Hay wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times.
“He looked fit and sharp and while I think that most of us would say that when fully firing on all cylinders that Moussa Dembele is a force to be reckoned with, the form of Griffiths this season has given Rodgers food for thought.”
Given the form that Griffiths has been in so far this season, it would be harsh to relegate him to the substitutes’ bench.
Perhaps former Liverpool and Swansea City manager Rodgers should try to find a system in which the Scotsman and Dembele both can play together.
Celtic are going strong in the Scottish Premiership at the moment and should be able to win the league title yet again this season.
