The new West Ham United manager looks set to put his faith in the youngster.
The Scot has quickly set about winning round the club's supporters by running the rule over the Spaniard, and one wonders if Martinez could play a similar role to Adnan Januzaj when the young attacker was given a chance by Moyes at Old Trafford.
While many of Manchester United's star names under-performed during Moyes' short stint, Januzaj was sensational, delivering the kind of performances that clearly showed the debt he owed to his new boss for giving him a chance.
Januzaj was United's main creative catalyst and he was never the same once Moyes departed, but now West Ham could benefit from a hungry young sensation of their own.
Unlike the then-teenage Januzaj, Martinez has already enjoyed first-team football while on loan at Oxford United and he is far more prepared than the former Belgian international was when he first stepped out at Old Trafford.
Moyes will want players he can trust at West Ham, players who want to perform for him, and one of the best ways of doing that is to promote from within.
Martinez will be desperate to prove his worth and, with the right service and a little luck, he could be for West Ham what Januzaj - albeit briefly - was for Manchester United.
