The Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper was magnificent against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino offered high words of praise for the club’s goalkeeping coach Toni Jimenez, when speaking with reporters, crediting him for the manner in which he has managed to keep third choice stopper Paulo Gazzaniga motivated this season, as quoted by the club’s official website.

The 25-year-old Argentine is behind both Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm in the Tottenham goalkeeping pecking order, but was called upon for the Lilywhites Premier League game against Crystal Palace at Wembley on Sunday.

Gazzaniga performed admirably, leading to calls from Spurs fans for his promotion within the team.

The 6ft 5in ‘keeper joined Tottenham from Southampton in the summer, and has impressed with his commitment and dedication, despite receiving limited game-time.

And Pochettino spoke highly of the Argentine stopper, when speaking to reporters, praising Jiminez for the manner in which he has kept the 25-year-old motivated this season, as quoted by TottenhamHotspur.com:

“It was a great debut for Paulo, fantastic and he deserves full credit. It’s not easy to play in that circumstance and, for me, Toni Jimenez deserves big credit as well, our goalkeeping coach. To keep the third goalkeeper motivated when every week he has to go to the stand and then show that performance and that quality, not just Paulo, Toni deserves big, big credit. That made me very proud about my coaching staff. When we talk about the squad, the staff, coaching, medical, everyone, that is three points where we can congratulate everyone, real teamwork.”

Spurs and Gazzaniga are currently in the midst of a two-week lay-off due to the international break, before they return to action on November 18th with an away trip to bitter rivals Arsenal, and the Argentine could very well find himself between the sticks again as Lloris and Vorm remain out injured.
