Sunderland fans have been reacting on Twitter to the news that the club confirmed on their official website shortly after their Championship clash with Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday that Simon Grayson has left the club.

The Black Cats have made a torrid start to life in the second tier. They sit inside the relegation zone and went into the clash with the Trotters without a win since August when they tasted a league victory for the only time so far this term.

With Bolton bottom of the table, it appeared that the game was make or break for Grayson. And unfortunately for the former Preston North End boss, it was the latter after a dramatic night at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland went 1-0 down, 2-1 up and then 3-2 down before Paddy McNair scored a late equaliser for Sunderland to move them up to 22nd in the table, two points off safety.

But that was not enough for Grayson to keep his job as the club confirmed on their official website almost before the fans had had a chance to leave the stadium it seemed, that the manager had been dismissed.

Despite Grayson being the latest manager to be unable to turn things around at the club, the reaction amongst the supporters on social media seemed to be positive, with many unconvinced that he would have been able to keep them up and some suggesting that he should have gone sooner.
