Dimitar Berbatov has told BT Sport that he believes Tottenham Hotspur can win the Champions League come May 2018, if they can see off the challenge of holders Real Madrid on Wednesday night.

Mauricio Pochettino's side go up against the La Liga giants for a second time in just over a fortnight at Wembley Stadium in Group H of the Champions League, after drawing 1-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu earlier this month.

Former Tottenham striker Berbatov believes Spurs could go all the way if they send out a statement by beating Zinedine Zidane's side, and is confident that his old side can get a result.

Berbatov, who also played for Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen, highlighted three of Spurs' star players that can make the difference as the north Londoners look for the three points required to qualify.

“Yes, they can beat Real Madrid,” he said. “The way they performed at the Bernabeu gives me hope they can do something at home.

Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen – this triangle is very dangerous. They have a great squad and hopefully Kane will be fit because he’s the guy who will score the goals.”

“Let me tell you, if they beat Real Madrid they can do something big. If you beat Real Madrid then you’re showing the potential to do that (go all the way). I am supporting them as always, watching them and hoping they can get to the final."

Spurs sit in second place in Group H, level on seven points with league leaders Real and a victory would see the Premier League giants qualify for the last 16 with Borussia Dortmund and APOEL Nicosia both on one point.

It remains to be seen if Kane will return to face Madrid, after missing Spurs' 1-0 defeat to Manchester United with a strained hamstring. However, Alli returns to the fold after serving his European suspension.
