Former Crystal Palace and Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is in the frame to take over at Rangers – and Celtic fans are amused.

As you might expect, reports that Alan Pardew has emerged as a genuine contender for the vacant managerial position at Rangers have received quite the divided response.

After all, there are few coaches in the modern game who divide opinion quite like the laddish, head-butting, touchline-grooving former LMA Manager of the Year winner.

The Mail report that Pardew has been on tenterhooks waiting for an opportunity to return to the Premier League but there has been tentative contact between the 56-year-old’s representative and Rangers, who are without a manager after the departure of Pedro Caixinha on Thursday.

The report adds that Aberdeen’s Derek McInnes remains Rangers first choice, despite the fact chairman Dave King will have to cough up £1 million in compensation to free the former Rangers player from his contract at Pittodrie.

While Rangers supporters range from the amused to the enthused, however, those fans from across the city are rubbing their hands together with another sound-bite loving gaffer in the frame to take over at Ibrox.

The gap between Celtic and Rangers only appeared to widen during Caixinha’s seven month spell in charge and it’s fair to say few Hoops fans are not losing too much sleep about the prospect of Pardew leading the Rangers revolution.
