Irwin was rarely a headline grabber during his time playing for the Red Devils, but he was always a reliable figure in their backline.
And Redknapp believes that Davies has developed into a very trustworthy player for Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs.
“Ben Davies reminds me of Dennis Irwin,” Redknapp said. “Every game eight or nine out of 10. He’s such a calm and composed young man, and he’s so good on the ball.”
Davies has had to bide his time for a consistent run of games at Spurs, as he has often had to play second fiddle to Danny Rose.
However, Rose’s injury problems have provided Davies with a chance in Tottenham’s first-team, and the Welsh international has certainly taken it.
Davies has been in fine form for Spurs this term, with his performances from left wing-back really catching the eye.
Rose is now back fit and available again, but he is far from assured of his position in Spurs’ first-team.
Davies looks the most likely starter for Tottenham, when they take on Manchester United in Premier League action this weekend.
