Leeds United beat Bristol City 3-0 at the weekend, with Pontus Jansson on the substitutes’ bench.

Thomas Christiansen has told BBC Radio Leeds that he has been thinking about dropping Pontus Jansson for a considerable amount of time.

Jansson has not been at his best for Leeds this season, and he was taken out of the Whites’ line-up for their most recent match against Bristol City.

Leeds went on to win 3-0 at Ashton Gate, with Matthew Pennington and Liam Cooper looking very solid together at the back.

And Christiansen admits that he has been toying with the idea of taking Jansson out of Leeds’ team for a while.

“I have had my thoughts about it for some time,” Christiansen said.

“I think that after the last games this was the moment to do it and the response of Pennington and Liam was perfect.

“I don’t want to speak about players who didn’t play, but the ones who played, because they were the ones who helped the team claim the three points.”

Jansson is unlikely to have too many complaints about being dropped by Leeds, as even he admitted that he has been out of form this season in an honest social media post recently.

The Swedish defender remains a very popular figure at Elland Road, but he now faces a fight to win his place in the team back.

Leeds are likely to stick by Cooper and Pennington for their upcoming league matches, with Jansson looking at spending a considerable amount of time on the substitutes’ bench.

Leeds’ next contest comes against Leicester City in the League Cup in midweek, when Jansson could feature.
