The Newcastle United winger has barely been seen this season.
From next big thing to forgotten man, Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons has barely featured for the Magpies this season, his only outing to date a goal-scoring appearance in the EFL Cup against Nottingham Forest.
While Newcastle lost that tie 3-2 after extra-time, Aarons scored one and set up another and yet he has not had a sniff of Premier League action before or since.
If Newcastle's in-favour wide men were doing the business consistently, the decision would be understandable, but aside from Matt Ritchie there have been few positives and Aarons surely deserves the chance to prove his worth now his injury woes are behind him.
With Ayoze Perez struggling prior to his goal against Southampton, there was also a case to be had for Aarons to replace the Spaniard behind Joselu, and yet Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez seemingly has no intention of bringing the 21-year-old in from the cold.
It is hard to say if the decision is justified because it has been so long since Aarons had a prolonged run in the Newcastle side, but Benitez should take the chance, with the player's innate talent undeniable and his ability to make something out of nothing too important to ignore.
For now the Newcastle boss is doing just that, but Aarons deserves his chance and most Magpies fans would be happy to see him get it.
