The Lazio ace is wanted by Liverpool, but Everton should gatecrash the party.
Toffees boss Ronald Koeman currently finds himself under intense pressure at Goodison Park, following his side’s sluggish start to their 2017/18 campaign, both domestically and on the continent.
The Dutchman will surely be looking to bolster his options during the January transfer market, and despite the signing of Michael Keane in the summer, the Everton back-line still requires an injection of youth.
With this in mind, the Blues should consider a move for Lazio ace Stefan de Vrij, who has been linked with a move to their bitter rivals Liverpool this winter, according to Italian media outlet Corriere Dello Sport.
The 25-year-old centre-back is one of Europe’s finest defenders, and the Toffees could really make a statement of intent by bringing him to Goodison Park during the January transfer window.
De Vrij is still yet to sign a new deal with Lazio, so he could be available for a bargain in the coming months – not that Everton need to be frugal with their spending, following Farhad Moshiri’s partial takeover in February 2016.
The Netherlands international would be the ideal long-term partner for Keane at the heart of the Blues’ defence, and Koeman should go all out to sign him in January.

Standing at 6ft 2in, the Lazio ace is strong in the air, but is equally quick along the ground – two attributes which make him a fantastic all-round defender.
And if Everton manage to sign him in January, it could turn out to be a real statement of intent from the Merseyside outfit.
