Leeds United had wanted to bring Danny Ings to Elland Road on loan – but the Liverpool striker is now a target for a number of Premier League clubs.

Danny Ings is up against it if he is to add to his solitary England cap between now and the World Cup in Russia next year. Not only is attack arguably one of the stronger areas of Gareth Southgate’s squad, the 25-year-old also hasn’t played a Premier League game since 2015/16 after suffering a second serious knee injury in the space of two years.

Nonetheless, TEAMtalk report that Ings is determined to force his way into Southgate’s reckoning with England already assured of a place in next summer’s festival of football.

The report adds that Ings has between now and January to impress Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp or be sent out on loan in the mid-season transfer window. There’s no shortage of interest, however, with Watford, Southampton, Crystal Palace and Merseyside rivals Everton all keen.

If Ings can play regular Premier League football in the second half of this season, and rediscover the form that earned him a move to Anfield in the first place from Burnley in 2015, there’s no reason to completely rule out the striker’s chances of boarding that place to Russia.

Leeding to disappointment

Though Ings’ World Cup ambitions seem to all but end Leeds United’s hopes of luring him to Elland Road. TEAMtalk adds that a number of Championship clubs are vying for Ings’ signature, while ESPN reported recently that Leeds felt he could be the man to fire The Whites to promotion.

Considering that Ings scored 21 goals to spearhead Burnley’s return to the Premier League in 2013/14, you can see where Leeds are coming from.

Danny Ings of Burnley celebrates following the Sky Bet Championship match between Burnley and Wigan Athletic at Turf Moor on April 21, 2014 in Burnley, England.

The last Championship-based player to feature for the Three Lions, however, was a young Wilfried Zaha against Sweden in 2012 in a game better remembered for Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s stunning four-goal haul.

Ings, then, is probably better off remaining in the top flight if he can.
