Few players in Europe are disliked by their own fans as much as Andre Gomes is at Barcelona.
The Portugal international flopped in his first season at the Nou Camps and supporters have since been desperate for him to leave.
Gomes was selected as a surprise starter for Barcelona against Atletico Madrid at the weekend, and actually managed to win over a few fans in the process.
The midfielder's performances usually garner a response like this...
@aftgomes You do not know how to play football ... you are very bad ... and do not deserve to wear the Barcelona logo ... leave the team...— Yasir Jr (@yasirnjr) October 15, 2017
After the 1-1 draw away to Atletico, Andre Gomes managed to actually earn some praise from supporters.
One even labelled his performance as 'exceptional', with others hoping it can provide a spark for him to kick on at the club.

-Andre Gomes improved drastically when he played his natural position
-Deulofeu deserves more minutes
-Suarez is back
Many wouldn’t agree with me but Andre Gomes has improved compared to last season. Denis should’ve played anyway.— Nábílövič (@Mohamed_Nabil95) October 14, 2017

André Gomes actually played well today to be honest. Rakitic didn't do anything wrong and didn't do anything right either— Mikewalay (@MaduekweMichael) October 14, 2017

Hate to admit it but Andre Gomes played well in the second halfhope he's finally gained confidence— #BarcaSiBartoNo (@samuel_oludara) October 14, 2017
Gomes playing well gives him a new lease of life, although it could actually speed up his exit.
If Tottenham are to commit £20 million to sign him, considering they already have an array of talented midfielders, they will need to see a few positive signs.
There was reason to be encouraged with his display against Atletico.
He completed 88 per cent of his passes, creating one goalscoring chance, while making five tackles - more than any other Barcelona player.
